Unprepared and weakened. WSJ predicts what military North Korea provided for Russia.
According to intelligence, the military from North Korea approaching the front are young people aged from teenage years to 20, who are at the initial stages of military service. They have special training in sabotage operations and infrastructure destruction in the mountainous areas of South Korea. It is noted that they probably have no experience outside North Korea and use outdated weapons.
South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun stated that these military personnel are "cannon fodder mercenaries." Also, according to objective assessments, they look weak and short, which indicates malnutrition in North Korea.
About 3,000 North Korean soldiers arrived in Russia this month, according to estimates by the USA, South Korea, and Ukraine.
The reasons and role of these military personnel are still unclear, but they may gain experience by observing the use of drones and Russian military conditions. Analysts also note that this deployment of troops may be an attempt to present North Korea as a defensive force and assist Russia. However, if they are involved in combat, it would escalate the situation, note the partners of the USA and NATO.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claims that Moscow is determined to continue aggression, and therefore, involved North Korea. Intelligence also reports that soon these North Korean military personnel will be deployed by Russia in combat zones against Ukraine.
