Ukrainian Air Defense Downs 29 of 37 Drones in Overnight Russian Assault.
Russia Launches Drone Attack on Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: In the early hours of February 19, Russian forces attacked Ukraine using 37 strike drones, 20 of which were Iranian-made 'Shahed' models. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted or neutralized 29 of the hostile targets. The assault resulted in impacts at four separate locations.
This attack follows a warning from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 16, who stated Russia was preparing a new mass strike and ordered enhanced protective measures. In response, he directed the following officials to prepare necessary additional defenses:
- Commander of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Anatoliy Kryvonizhka,
- Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov,
- Head of Ukrenergo, Vitaliy Zaichenko
These drone and missile strikes have become a frequent tactic in Russia's ongoing invasion, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure.
Damage to Critical Infrastructure in Lozova Community
Following enemy strikes on the Lozova community, critical infrastructure objects were damaged. The area's largest boiler house was left without electricity, threatening to leave nearly 16,000 subscribers without heating. These events underscore the severe threat Ukraine faces amid the continuing aggression.
The situation demands constant vigilance and readiness to respond, as attacks utilizing drones are becoming increasingly common. Ukrainian authorities continue to implement measures to protect the population and critical infrastructure in the face of Russia's escalating military activity.
This assault highlights the persistent threat Ukraine confronts as the war continues. The growing activity of Russian forces, particularly in the use of drones, presents new challenges for Ukrainian air defense and other security sectors. Ukraine's government is forced to respond swiftly to these challenges to ensure the safety of its population and critical infrastructure, which is a vital factor for the country's stability during the conflict.
