Russia is modernizing Shaheds: how new communication modules complicate air defense.
According to ТСН: Russian troops have begun modernizing the strike drones-kamikaze "Shahed" and "Gerber", equipping them with new radio modems that operate in different frequency ranges. This allows for the creation of an effective communication network in the air.
New modems for drones
Expert in the field of electronic warfare and military communications Sergei "Flash" Beskrestnov notes that Russian forces are no longer limited to a single Chinese modem operating in the range of 1300-1500 MHz. Already downed "Shaheds" have shown the presence of other models, including modems in the range of 3200-3400 MHz, as well as the activity of devices in the range of 2700-2900 MHz.
The expert emphasized that Chinese manufacturers supply a significant number of modems in various frequencies, complicating radio countermeasures:
"As you can see, our radio warfare is just beginning".
Drone communication system
Thanks to the new modems, drones can create a complex communication network in which several "Shaheds" and "Gerbers" can be in the air simultaneously, transmitting data to each other and directly to Russia.
This network forms a so-called "web" that is difficult to extinguish, as the signal is transmitted through all modems simultaneously. In this system, the Russians gain two key advantages:
real-time intelligence data transmission,
real-time control of the "Shaheds" during flight.
Beskrestnov emphasizes that control over this process and countering it is critically important for Ukraine's defense capability. The expert has repeatedly informed the military leadership about the scale of this threat.
It is worth noting that the modernization of kamikaze drones can significantly affect the tactical situation at the front, complicating the tasks of Ukrainian defense. Effective counteraction to these threats remains crucial to ensuring the safety of the country and its citizens.
