Orbán explained the threat to Hungary's pensions from financing Ukraine.
According to ТСН: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made a sensational statement about the financial support for Ukraine from the European Union. He claims that providing funds for Kyiv could lead to significant cuts in social standards for Hungary, particularly for retirees and families with children.
Orbán shared his thoughts on social media, referring to the figure of $800 billion - so much, he stated, that the Ukrainian government wants to receive from Brussels over the next ten years.
The Prime Minister resorted to manipulative comparisons, noting that this amount would be enough to pay all retirees in Hungary for 40 years.
“We heard the report from János Lázár about how Brussels will distribute this $800 billion and what it will be used for. The outcome is absolutely terrifying,” Orbán said.
The Hungarian leader also expressed the opinion that the implementation of the European Union's plans to support Ukraine will come at the expense of the well-being of citizens of EU member states, especially Hungary.
Among the threats he mentioned are: the possible abolition of the 13th and 14th pensions, the removal of family benefits, and the introduction of a progressive income tax for Hungarian citizens.
“All this to pay for what Ukrainians spend on municipal services,” the politician summarized.
Let us remember that Orbán previously hinted at the possibility of a war in Europe as early as 2026. According to him, the nuclear weapon after the end of World War II kept the peoples of the continent from wars. He noted that a “completely new world” is now being formed.
The statements from Viktor Orbán and his alarming forecasts about financial support for Ukraine testify to deep concerns about social policy in Hungary. The Prime Minister also emphasizes that EU measures could have negative effects on the well-being of Hungarians and tries to draw attention to internal problems in the context of foreign policy.
