OPCW expresses concern over the fate of significant stockpiles of chemical weapons in Syria.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons reminds Syria of the need to fulfill its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention. The OPCW notes the importance of the status of facilities related to chemical weapons and emphasizes that there are serious concerns regarding the future of these agents.
The Secretariat of the organization highlights the necessity of ensuring the security and preservation of materials and facilities of chemical weapons across Syria. The OPCW is ready to cooperate with the Syrian government and international partners on these issues.
Syria acceded to the Chemical Weapons Convention in 2013 and submitted its initial declaration regarding its chemical weapons program. However, the OPCW considers this declaration to be incomplete and inaccurate, which is why a special group was created to address the discrepancies. The organization expresses serious concerns regarding the authenticity of the declaration and the preservation of chemical weapons.
