Gas prices are rising again from January 1: how much prices will increase

According to inkorr.com: Ukrainians have been warned about a new increase in fuel prices that will come into effect on January 1, 2026. As noted by the director of the consulting group 'A-95', Serhiy Kuyun, the price of gasoline may rise by 1.5 hryvnias per liter. These changes will be caused by changes in taxation legislation and the situation in European markets. This was reported by Life Kiyv.

Expected price increase for gasoline and diesel fuel from 2026

According to analysts' forecasts, prices for major gasoline grades, such as A-95 and A-92, may increase on average by 1-1.5 UAH/l, while diesel fuel will become slightly more expensive.

“The increase is related to the rise in excise duties and seasonal fluctuations in demand. Traditionally, logistics costs rise in winter, and the Ukrainian market reacts to fluctuations in oil quotes in Europe,” Kuyun explained.

Factors affecting the price situation in 2026

The main factors that will affect the fuel cost:

  • Increase in excise duties. Changes to the tax code, which increase excise tax rates, will be introduced from the new year.

  • Seasonal demand. Transportation and storage costs for fuel increase in winter.

  • Oil prices in Europe. Ukraine imports most of its fuel, therefore it reacts to fluctuations in European markets.

As a result, the average price of gasoline may reach 59-60 UAH per liter, and diesel fuel – 57-58 UAH/l, depending on the region and the gas station network.

Experts advise Ukrainians to refuel at the end of December while current prices are in effect and to consider possible price increases when planning expenses after the holidays. Therefore, with the beginning of 2026, drivers may feel a new surge in fuel price increases caused by tax changes and market conditions.

Ukrainians should be attentive to changes in fuel pricing, as this may affect not only transportation costs but also the prices of goods and services. Timely preparation for price increases can help avoid unexpected expenses in the new year.
