The new Pope emphasized the moral role of the Church in modern times
Leo XIV, elected as the new Pope, expressed his desire to make the Catholic Church a moral guide in the age of the technological revolution. He highlighted his intentions during his first meeting with the cardinals of the Sacred College. This was reported by the news resource Vatican News.
Pope Leo XIV noted that the Church offers its social doctrine as a response to contemporary challenges related to the new industrial revolution and the development of artificial intelligence. He stressed the importance of protecting human dignity, justice, and work in this context.
On May 8, American Robert Prevo was elected as the Pope under the name Leo XIV. This is the first time in history that a pontiff is from America. The election of the new Pope has already been welcomed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump. Robert Prevo was a missionary in Peru and, despite his relative obscurity, became the head of the Catholic Church.
