Syryskyi outlined the conditions for negotiations with Russia: no territorial concessions.
According to ТСН: Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syryskyi publicly shared his vision of the conditions for transitioning to peace negotiations for the first time. He emphasized that any territorial concessions for Ukraine are unacceptable, and negotiations can only begin after a real ceasefire.
In a conversation with journalists from the British television channel Sky News, he clearly stated that the scenario of giving up territories for peace is unacceptable.
The formula for 'just peace'
Responding to a question, Syryskyi noted that 'simply giving away our land' is not an option he can even consider. He specified that a just peace must be built without preconditions and renunciation of territories. This means stopping at the current front line, ceasing fire, and then negotiating without any conditions.
The general also stressed that any other option would be an 'unjust peace' that Ukraine will not agree to.
Diplomacy as a guise for the aggressor
Syryskyi expressed doubts about the sincerity of the Kremlin's intentions. In his opinion, Moscow uses discussions of peace plans, including those initiated by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, merely as a tactical ploy. 'The enemy continues its offensive, using these peace negotiations as cover,' he emphasized.
The general noted that Russia shows no signs of reducing military activity. On the contrary, the occupiers are trying to use diplomatic negotiations to seize as much Ukrainian territory as possible. He stressed that the task of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remains unchanged – to defend the country until real conditions for just peace arise.
Former President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko also shared his thoughts on the recent events surrounding Ukraine and possible scenarios for ending the war, warning that a ceasefire without adherence to international law could lead to a new war with Russia in just 3-4 years.
Oleksandr Syryskyi's statements emphasize the importance of a clear position for Ukraine on the international stage in the context of the prolonged conflict with Russia. His warnings about potential manipulations by the Kremlin raise questions about the genuine intentions of Moscow in the negotiations. In this difficult time, it is crucial for the Ukrainian side not only to maintain territorial integrity but also to build a roadmap for sustainable peace. Addressing internal and external threats will remain a key task for the state.Read also
