Kyiv Launches 'Educational Relocation' in Five Districts Following February 12th Attack.
Kyiv Implements 'Educational Relocation' to Preserve In-Person Learning
According to TSN.ua: In response to the Russian attack on February 12th, which severely damaged critical infrastructure, five districts of Kyiv are introducing an 'educational relocation' program. This initiative aims to maintain in-person schooling by moving students from facilities that lost heating and other essential services. This attack is part of a wider Russian campaign targeting Ukrainian energy and civilian infrastructure during the winter months.
The number of educational buildings without heating has now reached 315, representing over 30% of the city's total. These affected buildings include:
- 163 kindergartens
- 141 schools
The most severe situations are in the Holosiivskyi, Darnytskyi, Desnianskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Pecherskyi districts. Consequently, educational institutions have begun merging students and pupils from different schools and kindergartens.
For example, Gymnasium No. 11 has accommodated 87 junior pupils from School No. 103, while Lyceum No. 141 has provided space for pupils from Primary School No. 182. Kindergarten No. 559 has also responded by accepting nearly 40 children from Kindergarten No. 44. This 'educational relocation' format is designed to preserve the learning process despite the hardships caused by the attacks.
"Our task is to preserve the educational process," stated Valentyn Mondryivskyi.
The implementation of 'educational relocation' in Kyiv is a direct response to the critical situation caused by ongoing hostilities. Given the significant number of damaged educational institutions, this step will help maintain access to education for children, a vital aspect of stability during wartime. The adaptation of the education system under such difficult conditions demonstrates the readiness of local authorities and institutions to meet challenges and ensure continuity of learning.
