Trump's 28-Point Plan: What is Happening with Peace Negotiations.
According to ТСН: Last Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump warned his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky about the necessity for Ukraine to adopt his recently proposed 28-point peace plan. He also set a deadline for Thanksgiving Day, November 27. However, the situation has changed, and that has not happened.
According to information that emerged on November 22, the plan consisted of 28 points. This proposal raised concerns in Ukraine and among its allies, as it could lead to significant territorial concessions to Russia and a substantial reduction in the size of the Ukrainian army.
A Difficult Choice for Ukraine
After the initial announcement of the 'peace plan', Zelensky warned Ukrainians that 'this is now one of the most difficult days in our history.' He emphasized that 'the country may face a very difficult choice: either lose its dignity or risk losing a key partner.'
Trump dismissed these concerns, stating that 'at some point he (Zelensky - Ed.) will have to come to terms with something.' During diplomatic negotiations in Geneva, European allies of Kyiv presented counter-proposals.
“It seems now that the ball is in Moscow's court, as it has not officially responded to the counter-proposal that the U.S. and Ukraine are working on. However, a number of Russian officials have publicly stated that their position has not changed and they will not make concessions.”
Possible Consequences
The publication notes that the upcoming week could be crucial. However, military analyst Michael Clarke believes that the peace process may fail, as has happened before, since the Kremlin is not prepared to make concessions.
“Then it is important who Donald Trump blames — Russia or Ukraine. Europe’s actions also matter. If the EU does not take measures to use frozen Russian assets to assist Ukraine in financing its defense, then Ukraine will find itself in truly significant trouble.”
It is worth mentioning that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated there are 'no' projects for a peace treaty, emphasizing that there is only a 'set of questions' for discussion. However, he added that Moscow is ready to use Washington's list of points regarding Ukraine as a basis for future agreements.
The situation surrounding the peace process remains tense, and the next steps could significantly impact Ukraine’s future. It is crucial how international partners will respond to new challenges, as their actions could change the balance of power in the region.
