Kyiv Official Faces Charges Over $570,000 in False Asset Declarations.
Official Accused of Filing False Asset Declaration
According to Novyny.live: On February 3, prosecutors announced they had served a notice of suspicion to Volodymyr Kostikov, Director of the Department of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development at the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA). He is accused of declaring false information concerning assets worth 22 million Ukrainian hryvnias. This case is part of Ukraine's ongoing anti-corruption efforts, which require public officials to submit detailed electronic asset declarations.
The discrepancy centers on his declared savings of 31 million hryvnias. Investigators estimate his actual capacity for savings does not exceed 9 million hryvnias, raising serious questions about the origin of the remaining 22 million hryvnias stated in his declaration.
Property Holdings and Potential Penalties
Kostikov's declared assets include an apartment valued at 8.4 million hryvnias and two vehicles:
- An Infiniti FX37S, valued at approximately 440 thousand hryvnias;
- A Mercedes Benz GL500, valued at around 600 thousand hryvnias.
Under Article 366-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, knowingly filing a false declaration is punishable by a fine of 6,000 to 8,000 tax-free minimum incomes or restriction of liberty for up to two years. The situation has drawn significant public attention and could have severe consequences for the official's career.
This incident underscores the critical importance of transparency in the public sector and adherence to the anti-corruption standards established in Ukraine.
The public will be closely monitoring the case's developments and any potential repercussions for the official. Such situations can significantly impact citizens' trust in government bodies and their perceived effectiveness in combating corruption. It is vital that the relevant authorities strictly follow the law and ensure a fair investigation.
