According to ТСН: The Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeyev, urged German politicians to be more cautious in their statements regarding the American plan to end the war.

This statement was made by the diplomat during the Maybrit Illner program on the ZDF channel. He emphasized that Ukraine needs not intermediaries but 'allies who sit with us at the negotiating table' in its pursuit of peace. Makeyev stressed:

'I also strongly urge everyone here in Germany not to criticize the US. We need their support to achieve peace.'

The Role of Germany in Peace Negotiations

The diplomat also noted Germany's positive contribution to shaping the European position, highlighting the leadership of Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The State of the American Peace Plan

The American peace plan has undergone changes following comments from Ukraine and several EU countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the updated document could serve as

'the basis for future agreements'
, but confirmed his demands regarding the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from territories claimed by Russia.

Earlier, it was reported that a more or less constructive round of negotiations on the American 'peace plan' is possible no sooner than mid-January.

It was also noted that Trump’s peace initiatives failed due to Kremlin's tough demands and Ukraine's steadfastness, while European allies warn of dangerous aspects of the US strategy.

Makeyev's comments may influence discussions in Germany, where politicians often discuss strategic support for Ukraine. Moderated statements may help create a more favorable climate for dialogue between the US and their European allies in the context of a joint approach to resolving the conflict peacefully.
