Volodymyr Fesenko's Commentary on Peace Negotiations

According to UATV: Political analyst Volodymyr Fesenko has argued that making concessions to Russia will not result in peace, but rather could prompt Moscow to make new territorial demands. During an appearance on the FREEDOM TV channel, he emphasized that Russia has not renounced its claims to the entire territories of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. This perspective comes amid ongoing international debate about the terms for ending the conflict.

Fesenko noted that what is currently being suggested to American audiences is, in his words, a 'so-called compromise' where Ukraine would withdraw from Donbas and the war would supposedly end. He firmly rejected this position, stating:

“Unfortunately, that is not the case. If we concede Donbas to Russia now, it is almost certain that similar demands will follow regarding Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, and then Kharkiv and Odesa.”

The analyst also pointed out that there has been no official confirmation from Russia of any alternative position.

“We have not heard a single statement confirming this position,”
he remarked. Furthermore, he commented on the view of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who believes Ukraine should agree to a deal with Russia. Fesenko expressed doubt about the realism of this stance, noting:
“Unfortunately, Trump is ready to believe that Putin can stop at Donbas, that this will be enough for him.”

The Impact of Trump's Position on the Peace Process

Fesenko stressed that this contradiction in Trump's position complicates the peace process and the negotiations to end the war.

“Such a contradiction in Trump's position, unfortunately, complicates the peace process and the negotiations themselves on ending the war,”
he said. In the context of these developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting with the Ukrainian team involved in the peace negotiations in Geneva.

Volodymyr Fesenko's statements highlight the complexity and ambiguity surrounding peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. His remarks about potential new territorial demands from the Russian Federation indicate that even if an agreement on Donbas is reached, it does not guarantee stability and peace in the region. Trump's statements may also influence international support for Ukraine in the negotiations, adding further challenges to this complex process. The position of the Ukrainian authorities, particularly President Zelenskyy, remains critically important in the context of safeguarding Ukraine's national interests.
