The Kremlin claims an attack by drones on Putin's residence: why this lie is needed.
According to ТСН: The Kremlin is actively spreading misinformation about an alleged drone attack on Vladimir Putin's residence. The goal is to disrupt negotiations and justify possible war crimes.
"Attack" on Putin's residence: what is known
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claims that on the night of December 29, Kyiv allegedly carried out a drone attack on the presidential residence in the Novgorod region. According to him, Russian troops destroyed 91 UAVs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"The objects and timing of Russia's response after the attack on Putin's state residence have been determined," he said.
There has been no information about casualties or damages. However, it should be noted that on the night of December 28, Ukrainian drones attacked the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region and other facilities of the occupiers.
No official reports of shelling of the residence were made on December 29. Social media highlight the contradictory reports from republican propaganda about the number of active drones.
Lavrov reported 91 destroyed UAVs, while the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed "intercepted 89 + 23 UAVs across all regions, of which 41 - over the Novgorod region." Thus, the fate of 50 drones remains unknown if they actually existed.
Monitoring channels in Russia also did not provide serious evidence to confirm reports of a "yellow level of danger" on the night of December 29, and there are no footage in propaganda media confirming a massive attack.
The Kremlin claims a review of the negotiating position and threatens a response
After reports of the alleged attack, Lavrov began talking about a review of the negotiating position. The Kremlin claims that during a phone call, Putin informed Trump about the attack on his residence. The advisor to the Kremlin leader, Yuri Ushakov, conveyed that Trump allegedly noted that he could not imagine "such insane actions" and "thanked God" that he did not supply "Tomahawk" missiles to Kyiv.
"The US president was shocked and outraged by the attempt to attack the state residence of the Russian leader," assured the dictator's assistant.
Ushakov also noted that Trump expressed the opinion that this attack will affect Washington's approach to cooperation with Zelensky. Against the backdrop of these statements, Putin issued ultimatums, attempting to legitimize new aggressive actions. He promised a "response" to Kyiv's "terrorist actions."
"Putin told Trump that Kyiv's terrorist actions in the attack on the state residence would not go unanswered," said Ushakov.
The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, added that the response would be "not diplomatic."
Zelensky denies reports of the attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denies the allegations of a drone attack on Putin's residence, calling it "another lie." According to him, the Kremlin is trying to undermine progress in peace negotiations with the US and justify its future strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
"It is clear that we had a meeting with Trump yesterday. For the Russians, if we have no scandal with America and we have progress, it’s a failure," he stated.
Zelensky also urged the US and Europe to adequately respond to Russian provocations and support Kyiv's security. He emphasized that "Russia needs to stop romanticizing war and start thinking about how to restore security."
The National Security and Defense Council claims a threat
The head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalенко, noted that Lavrov's statement about the "drone attack" is an attempt to justify possible Russian strikes on Ukraine. According to him, Russia plans to bomb Ukrainian infrastructure this winter and is now trying to portray its actions as a "response" to gain support from the US.
"This attempt to disguise terror as 'a response' is unsuccessful," Kovalенко believes.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga called Russia's statements a provocation.
"The Russian manipulations regarding the alleged 'attempt on Putin's residence' are fabricated with one goal: to create a pretext and a false justification for future Russian attacks on Ukraine," said Sibiga.
He emphasized that Ukraine is trying to strike only military targets on Russian territory in response to aggression.
Trump's reaction
US President Donald Trump expressed his views on Russia's accusations that Ukraine allegedly attacked Putin's residence. He did this during a meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel.
"No, I don’t know anything about this. I just heard about it ... That would be very bad," Trump said.
Trump confirmed that he received this information from Putin and seems to believe the Russian version of events. Ukraine denies any involvement in the attack.
"Yes, I don’t like that. I don’t like that. That’s not good," he stated.
Trump also emphasized that "one thing is to insult, and another is to attack his home. You cannot do that. Now is not the time for this," he added.
Why the Kremlin talks about an "attack"
Security expert Pavlo Lakiichuk believes that Putin will not stop waging war and will continue the forceful resolution of the conflict, as real peace negotiations are currently impossible. These intentions are confirmed by the closure of a meeting of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
"Putin does not want to stop the war... In Moscow, there is no talk of any peace," the expert stressed.
The news of the alleged drone attack on Putin's residence has caused a wide resonance in the media and among analysts. It once again demonstrates the political game in which the Kremlin attempts to manipulate information to justify its actions on the international stage. Ukraine's position, particularly statements by Zelensky and other officials, indicates attempts by the Kremlin to use fake news to achieve its own goals. These events once again highlight the escalation of situations in the context of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict and could serve as a catalyst for further escalation.
