Trump Extends Invitation for Putin to Join Gaza 'Peace Council'.
Putin Receives Invitation to Gaza 'Peace Council'
According to TSN.ua: Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to join a 'Peace Council' for Gaza, an initiative spearheaded by U.S. President Donald Trump. The invitation was extended through diplomatic channels following Trump's January 16th announcement of the council's formation, which aims to establish a framework for post-war governance in the Gaza Strip.
Objectives of the Peace Council
According to President Trump, the Peace Council will support a new technocratic Palestinian government and coordinate humanitarian aid in the region. The U.S. President also stressed the necessity for Hamas to immediately surrender its weapons, a key aspect for stabilizing the situation in Gaza. This development comes amid ongoing international efforts to address the complex and protracted Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Putin received the invitation. He stated:
“Yes, President Putin has also received an invitation via diplomatic channels to join this Peace Council composition. At this moment, we are studying all the details of this proposal and hope for contacts with the American side to clarify all the nuances.”
Putin's invitation underscores the role of international cooperation in resolving Middle Eastern conflicts. While the creation of this council could be a step toward regional stabilization, its success will depend on the willingness of all participants to engage in constructive dialogue and fulfill commitments, such as the disarmament of Hamas.
U.S.-Russian collaboration in this context may significantly influence the future trajectory of the situation in Gaza and the broader political landscape of the region.
