A Rescued Lynx from Kyiv Finds Sanctuary in the UK.
Ursa the Lynx Begins a New Chapter
According to TSN.ua: Ursa, a lynx born in 2023, has started a new life at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Kent, UK, after being evacuated from Kyiv. She was a victim of the illegal wildlife trade and arrived suffering from an intestinal infection, parasites, and severe exhaustion. Thanks to dedicated care, Ursa has recovered and is gaining weight, though she remains slightly smaller than other lynxes her age. The illegal pet trade is a significant threat to wild cats globally, often leaving them in poor health.
The Kent sanctuary is already home to five lions rescued from Ukraine and plans to continue its vital work protecting wildlife. A fundraising appeal for at least £100,000 was launched to cover the complex logistics of Ursa's transportation and to ensure proper long-term care for rescued animals.
"We want to preserve this moment when Ursa steps outside her new home at the Wild Animals Rescue Centre for the very first time," sanctuary representatives noted.
This symbolic step marks Ursa's transition into a safe and secure environment where she can thrive.
The Critical Role of Wildlife Rehabilitation
The successful evacuation and rehabilitation of Ursa highlights the importance of international cooperation in wildlife protection, especially against threats like illegal trafficking. Sanctuaries such as The Big Cat Sanctuary play a crucial role by providing refuge, medical treatment, and a chance at a healthy life for rescued animals.
These initiatives are also vital for raising public awareness about conservation challenges and the ongoing need to protect vulnerable species.
