Prosecutor demands to close the Ferris wheel in Kyiv: the supports are resting on rotten beams.
According to ТСН: The supporting structures of the famous Ferris wheel at Kontraktova Square in Kyiv are supported by rotten wooden beams. The prosecutor's office has applied to the court demanding to prohibit the operation of the attraction due to a real threat to people's lives.
This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
Risk of collapse: what the inspection revealed
As part of the criminal proceedings, law enforcement officers conducted a technical inspection of the attraction. The results were critical: the supporting metal structure of the massive wheel is mounted on wooden beams in unsatisfactory condition.
According to the investigation, the wooden supports have signs of:
deep rot and destruction of the structure;
long-term exposure to moisture;
the presence of cavities (the wood easily crumbles with minimal mechanical impact).
“All this poses a threat to the health and lives of people,” emphasizes the prosecutor's office.
Court lawsuit and criminal case
The Podil District Prosecutor's Office has already submitted a motion to the court to impose a ban on the operation of the attraction. This measure aims to prevent a possible accident and injuries to visitors.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing under part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violating safety rules during work with increased danger, which created a threat to the lives of people).
In the photos and videos released by the prosecutor's office, it is clear that under the weight of the metal structures, the wood has essentially turned to dust.
Let us remind you that in Kyiv, during the cable break on the attraction descent over the Dnieper, a 20-year-old boy died. When he was going down the cable car and reached the middle of the river, a cable break occurred, resulting in him falling into the water.
This situation highlights the importance of adhering to safety standards for attractions in the city. In particular, inspections should be carried out regularly to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Authorities are obligated to take measures to ensure the safety of all visitors.
