Attacks on Ukrainian Medical Facilities

According to TSN.ua: Russian forces targeted a medical facility treating children in the city of Sumy. The assault, which occurred after 12:00 PM, shattered dozens of the hospital's windows. Officials reported that two strike drones were used in this attack.

In a separate incident overnight on February 5th, Russian troops also attacked the city with drones. At 2:30 AM, a strike hit the courtyard of an apartment building, causing significant damage. The attack, carried out by a 'Geran-2' type drone, blew out over 50 windows in the multi-story building and damaged several cars.

According to Oleg Grygorov, children and medical staff are currently sheltering in place. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties at the hospital. These strikes are part of a wider pattern of attacks on civilian infrastructure that has persisted since Russia's full-scale invasion began in February 2022.

Threat to Civilian Population

These events underscore the ongoing military actions in Ukraine and the severe threat they pose to civilians, especially children. Attacks on medical facilities raise serious concerns under international humanitarian law, which mandates that such sites remain protected during conflicts. It is crucial for the international community to acknowledge these incidents and take steps to safeguard civilians and medical institutions in Ukraine.
