Kyiv Targeted in January 24 Attack
According to Novyny.live: In the early hours of January 24, Russian forces launched a combined assault on Kyiv using drones and missiles, resulting in civilian casualties and damage across multiple districts of the Ukrainian capital. The attack underscores the ongoing vulnerability of major population centers despite Ukraine's air defenses.
The strike killed one person and injured four others, three of whom required hospitalization. Damage was reported in five of Kyiv's districts:
- Desnianskyi
- Dniprovskyi
- Darnytskyi
- Holosiivskyi
- Solomianskyi
In the Dniprovskyi district, a fire broke out in a garage cooperative. In Darnytskyi district, a missile struck an unfinished residential building, igniting a blaze that engulfed parts of the fifth and sixth floors.
Separately, a fire erupted at a non-residential construction site in Holosiivskyi district. In Solomianskyi district, a six-story office building sustained damage. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that falling debris shattered windows in an apartment building. He also confirmed that a fire started when drone wreckage hit a non-residential site, while in another incident, debris broke windows in a private house.
Broader Regional Impact
Simultaneously, residents of Kharkiv reported hearing more than two dozen explosions, indicating the wide geographic scope of the overnight attacks. Military expert Timur Tkachenko confirmed the strike on the unfinished high-rise in Darnytskyi district and the subsequent spread of the fire. Emergency services remain on high alert across the country.
