Overnight Assault on Dnipropetrovsk Region

According to TSN.ua: In a nighttime assault on March 5, Russian forces launched a mass drone attack on the city of Kryvyi Rih using Iranian-made 'Shahed' drones. The attack resulted in significant damage to the city's infrastructure and sparked several fires. Preliminary reports indicate that two men, aged 38 and 45, were injured in the strike.

Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed 15 of the hostile unmanned aerial vehicles. Despite this defensive effort, several drones penetrated the defenses and struck their targets, causing destruction. Among the damaged structures were:

  • A kindergarten
  • Private residential houses

The attack also affected four separate districts within the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Oleksandr Vilkul, Mayor of Kryvyi Rih: 'The enemy carried out a massive Shahed drone attack on our city overnight. Fifteen hostile UAVs were shot down in the sky above the region. However, there were also impacts. Most importantly, according to the information available now, everyone is alive.'

Oleksandr Hanzha, Head of the Regional Administration, added: 'Kryvyi Rih was under a massive attack tonight: fires broke out, and infrastructure was damaged.'

This incident is the latest in a series of escalating military actions targeting Ukrainian territory and its civilian population. Shahed drones, also known as 'kamikaze' drones, are a low-cost weapon Russia has used extensively to overwhelm air defenses and strike urban areas.

The attack underscores the continuation of aggressive Russian military operations aimed at damaging Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. The targeting of social institutions, such as kindergartens, highlights the severe threat to local communities. Despite the efforts of Ukrainian forces, the tense situation persists, raising concerns about further casualties and destruction from ongoing hostilities.
