Russian Strikes Target Ukrainian Rail Network, Disrupting Critical Transport.
Rail Infrastructure Under Attack in Ukraine
According to Novyny.live: On January 30, Russia launched a series of attacks targeting Ukraine's logistical infrastructure, with the railway network sustaining significant damage. Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal reported that within a 24-hour period, enemy forces carried out seven drone strikes against railway facilities. These assaults are part of a broader campaign to cripple Ukraine's domestic supply lines and economic resilience.
Impact and Damage Assessment
The strikes caused the most severe damage at the Synelnykove station. The list of damaged assets includes:
- Electric train carriages
- Freight wagons
- Locomotives
- Railway tracks
- Power grids
- Administrative and industrial buildings
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. However, train traffic between Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia remains restricted. To accommodate passengers from evening services, the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration has organized replacement bus transfers.
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal emphasized that these attacks are deliberately aimed at disrupting communication routes and civilian logistics.
Such strikes on rail infrastructure could severely complicate Ukraine's logistical operations. In wartime, reliable transport links are critically important for both the economy and civilian supply chains. While the government is taking steps to restore traffic, the threat of further attacks jeopardizes transportation stability in the region. This situation underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to protect vital infrastructure from ongoing aggression.
