Russia seeks relatives of prisoners for intelligence: how the FSB operates

According to inkorr.com: Russian special services are actively searching for relatives of Ukrainian prisoners of war, trying to involve them in gathering intelligence and conducting information-psychological operations. This information was voiced by psychologist Olena Sek during a meeting dedicated to issues of treatment of prisoners.

“Russian contacts are probing for information about units, weapons, and problems at the front. By gathering a large amount of information, military conclusions can be drawn,” she explained.

Relatives of prisoners are pressured to cooperate in exchange for promises to improve conditions for their loved ones or to obtain information about their whereabouts. However, such cooperation can lead to negative consequences, as happened, for example, in the case of fake information about the son of a prisoner of war.

Manipulations and psychological pressure from the FSB

The FSB uses relatives of prisoners of war to implement information-psychological operations, forcing them to spread Russian narratives. Coordinator Petro Yatsenko notes that such relatives become “free prey” for Russian special services.

“Relatives who become one-time agents are not paid, as they work with the goal of returning their loved ones,” he explained.

Law enforcement agencies are recording cases of confidential information being leaked and are trying to bring the guilty to justice, as such actions are dangerous and can have serious consequences. There is a risk of up to six years in prison for the leakage of data that has restricted access.

Prisoners of war experience psychological pressure through relatives, who are used by Russian special services to gather information and spread disinformation about the Ukrainian armed forces. There have been recorded cases of confidential information leaks, which can have serious consequences for military personnel and their families.

This situation underscores the importance of protecting information and maintaining secrecy in wartime. Protecting prisoners of war and their relatives is an extremely important element in combating information attacks and psychological pressure from the enemy. Ukraine should strengthen measures to prevent manipulations and protect the rights of its citizens in such conditions.
