Russian shelling left Slavutych without electricity: how the city operates during the blackout.
According to ТСН: On Friday evening, Slavutych came under shelling from Russian troops, resulting in the city being left without electricity supply. The blackout was caused by damage to an energy facility, which forced local services to urgently respond and switch critical life-support systems to emergency mode.
This was reported by the press service of JSC 'Chernihivoblenergo' on its official Telegram channel.
Energy situation and security restrictions
Energy workers confirmed that the power outage in the city was a result of enemy attack, not technical failures. The damage to the energy facility was so severe that it deprived the entire community of electricity. The company urged consumers to follow safety rules, as the threat continues to exist.
Repair crews are ready to start addressing the aftermath of the accident, but the commencement of work depends on the situation in the region.
‘As soon as the security situation allows, energy workers will begin emergency restoration work!’
Operation of critical infrastructure and water supply
Simultaneously with energy workers, the city authorities and utility services are also addressing the situation. The lack of electricity may disrupt the operation of pumping stations, but in Slavutych, an alternative solution was quickly found. The local council informed residents about the transition to backup power sources to support the water supply system.
As noted by the Slavutych City Council, the situation is under control. Within 30 minutes, water supply was expected to be restored thanks to the connection of backup power, which will allow providing local residents with water even without electricity, while energy workers repair the damaged equipment.
It is recalled that the worst scenario for the Ukrainian energy system during Russian shelling remains a blackout similar to that which occurred in the fall of 2022. However, currently, NPC 'Ukrenergo' and generating companies are significantly better prepared for such developments.
The situation in Slavutych emphasizes the challenges faced by the region due to the war. Despite power outages and shelling, local authorities and energy workers are taking active steps to maintain critical services such as water supply. This demonstrates the community's readiness and resilience in a complex security situation.Read also
