Fake news about the deportation of Ukrainians from Portugal: what is actually happening.
According to inkorr.com: Rumors about the possible deportation of Ukrainians from Portugal turned out to be unfounded, as confirmed by official sources. Discussions on social media were active regarding the information that 'the Portuguese are expelling Ukrainians' from the country, but this is yet another example of Russian propaganda, as noted by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
Russian media began spreading fake news about the 'cancellation of laws' and 'deportation of 60 thousand Ukrainians'. However, the facts indicate that no deportation, especially of Ukrainians, is taking place in Portugal.
Response from Portugal and the Center for Countering Disinformation
The Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA) in Portugal initiated a verification of about 65 thousand conditional residence permits issued back in 2022. This process has started at the request of the European Commission to confirm the compliance of the mentioned documents.
Representatives of the Center for Countering Disinformation pointed to this situation as another phase of an informational attack from Russia, aimed at creating a negative image of Ukraine. They emphasized that the fabrications about deportation are an attempt to provoke panic among Ukrainian refugees.
Ukrainians need not worry about their passports, as Portugal has no intention of expelling them from the country. This is yet another example of fake news that forms a negative perception of Ukrainians seeking asylum in European countries.
This situation underscores the importance of verifying the information we receive from various sources. In a world where disinformation spreads quickly, it is crucial to trust only verified data. Portugal remains open to Ukrainians seeking safe asylum and new opportunities for life. Real news should provide support and solidarity in these difficult times.
