Russia attacked the railway in three regions: what was damaged on the night of January 1

According to ТСН: Russian troops attacked the railway in the Volyn, Sumy, and Odesa regions in 2026.

Details of the attacks

Ukrainian Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba reported on the consequences of the attacks. In Volyn, on the night of January 1, the buildings of the locomotive depot in Kovel were damaged — about seven drone strikes occurred there.

In Sumy, the occupiers struck the railway station in Konotop, resulting in damage to freight cars.

In Odesa, Russian invaders also struck logistics infrastructure with Shahed drones. This poses a threat for repeated attacks and complicates restoration efforts.

"Repair teams of Uzhiznytsia are eliminating the consequences. The attack did not affect train movement," Kuleba noted.

Impact on energy infrastructure

It should be recalled that on the night of January 1, Russian drones attacked energy facilities in Ukraine, leading to significant power outages in Volyn, Odesa, and Chernihiv regions. The Ministry of Energy reported that emergency works are ongoing, but power limitation schedules for industry and hourly power cuts for the public are in effect in all regions of the country.

These attacks demonstrate the continuation of Russia's campaign against Ukraine's critically important infrastructure. Restoring damaged facilities is a priority for the state as it directly affects the lives of citizens and the functioning of the economy. Despite the difficulties, the Ukrainian authorities continue to work on restoration and ensuring stability in the country.
