Assault on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

According to TSN.ua: On March 21, 2023, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, cutting off electricity to the city of Slavutych. The morning strike left nearly 21,000 residents of Slavutych temporarily without centralized power. To maintain essential services, the city's critical infrastructure has been switched to backup generators.

The assault targeted a major energy facility in the Nizhyn district of Chernihiv Oblast, resulting in power outages for 430,000 subscribers across the Nizhyn, Pryluky, and Chernihiv districts. In the city of Chernihiv, all trolleybus routes except Route 11 have been suspended due to a lack of voltage in the grid.

Restoration of Power Supply

Utility crews are working around the clock to restore electricity to every home as quickly as possible. In Slavutych, resilience centers are operational, and both heating and water supply remain available. Communication networks and internet services are still functioning, enabling residents to stay connected during this difficult period.

This attack is part of a broader Russian campaign aimed at destabilizing Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

In wartime, such actions threaten not only daily living conditions but also the overall health of the country's economy. Ukrainian energy workers and emergency services continue their efforts to restore power, yet these strikes highlight the vulnerability of critical infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict.
