Staged Attack on Viktor Orbán to Manipulate Elections

According to TSN.ua: Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) reportedly approached Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with a plan to stage an assassination attempt against him. Codenamed 'Changing the Rules of the Game,' this strategy aims to influence Hungary’s parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12. According to reports, the election interference operation is being led by Sergei Kiriyenko.

Tensions are rising in Hungary as Orbán’s Fidesz party garners only 38% voter support, while the opposition Tisza party enjoys over 50% backing. These figures point to a potential surge for the opposition amid a deepening political crisis. A source quoted by The Washington Post remarked:

“I have never seen Fidesz so nervous.”

Growing Political Strain in Hungary

On March 7, Péter Magyar accused Viktor Orbán of involving Russian intelligence operatives, further fueling doubts about the stability of his government. Then, on March 19, the Hungarian government barred three Ukrainian citizens from entering the country. These moves may be part of a broader strategy approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s administration, which also endorsed a plan from the media consulting firm 'Social Design.'

From the Russian perspective, Dmitry Peskov dismissed the situation in Hungary as another instance of disinformation. Against this backdrop, a staged assassination attempt could serve not only as a tool of manipulation but also as a serious threat to democratic processes in Hungary, a country already experiencing political turmoil.

This situation reflects the complexity of Hungary’s political climate, where the rising opposition could challenge the ruling party’s hold on power. The upcoming elections may prove decisive for the country’s future, given external influences, particularly from Russia. If carried out, a staged assassination could further destabilize the nation, undermining the foundations of its democratic processes.
