American F-16s intercepted Russian Tu-95s near Alaska: NORAD reaction.
According to inkorr.com: U.S. fighters intercepted Russian Tu-95 and Su-35 planes near Alaska on September 24. This was reported by Glavkom citing CBS News.
According to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Russian aircraft were in the Alaskan Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), which is international airspace near the U.S. and Canada. To monitor them, America sent a long-range detection plane E-3, as well as four F-16 fighters and four KC-135 tanker aircraft.
Regular actions of Russian aircraft in the ADIZ
The command emphasized that Russian aircraft in the ADIZ often carry out similar actions, which do not pose a direct threat. However, this may indicate an attempt to test the readiness of the U.S. and its NATO allies.
Recently, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius commented on the dangerous flyby of a Russian fighter jet over a German frigate in the Baltic Sea, considering it a provocation by Russia.
More frequently, Russian aviation is testing the readiness of the West, which may lead to increased tensions in the region.
Such incidents indicate an escalation of military actions in the airspace, which can have serious consequences for international security. The spread of such practices by Russia raises concerns among Western countries that are monitoring developments and responding to provocations.
