Putin and Trump's Call: The Real State of the Ukraine War Front.
Putin and Trump's Phone Conversation
According to UATV: A phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump lasted approximately one hour. The discussion centered on the battlefield situation in Ukraine and events in the Middle East. Putin sought to convince Trump of the Russian army's successes, yet actual data indicates a halt in the Russian advance. From February 23 to March 1, 2023, Russia lost 16 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) regained control of approximately 400-435 square kilometers.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russian military forces are incapable of achieving their objectives:
'They are not able to do it with the means, the forces they have today.' - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Kaja Kallas, the Prime Minister of Estonia, emphasized that Russia's maximalist demands cannot be met with a minimalist response, stating that 'massive strikes on Ukraine, which have again killed many civilians, clearly show this.'
The Frontline Situation and International Reaction
Furthermore, EU Commissioner David O'Sullivan expressed the view that the Russian economy is on the brink of collapse. Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa called for continued pressure on Russia to bring it to the table for a just and lasting peace. He stated:
'We must continue to put pressure on Russia so that it agrees to negotiations for a fair and lasting peace.' - António Costa
The European Union believes Russia has no intention of ending the war and continues to support Ukraine, underscoring the gravity of the frontline situation. The discussion between Putin and Trump occurs against a backdrop of active military engagements and efforts by the international community to resolve the conflict. This conversation highlights the ongoing global debate surrounding the war in Ukraine, involving key world leaders. The situation on the front remains tense, and the outcomes of discussions between Western and Russian leaders could influence the future course of events in the region. Amid increasing international pressure on Russia, it is crucial for Ukraine to maintain its defensive capabilities and continue receiving support from its allies.
