Ukraine Holds Kostiantynivka: 11 Russian Assaults Repelled Over the Weekend.
Ukraine’s Situation and Control Over Kostiantynivka
According to UATV: Ukraine maintains a stable situation due to its firm hold on Kostiantynivka and the heavy losses inflicted on Russian forces. The Ukrainian army continues to strike Russian targets, while the Kremlin spreads disinformation claiming the city has been captured. As of now, Kostiantynivka remains under the control of Ukraine’s Defense Forces, underscoring the resilience of Ukrainian positions in this region. This city is a key defensive stronghold in the eastern Donetsk area, and its retention is critical for broader Ukrainian military strategy.
Over the weekend, Russian troops launched at least 11 assaults toward Kostiantynivka, highlighting their ongoing aggressive operations. In the Sumy region, more than 110 shelling incidents hit 23 settlements, injuring at least three people. Meanwhile, in Zaporizhzhia, attacks wounded eight individuals, including two children. These events underscore the severity of front-line fighting and the dangers faced by civilians.
Russian Aggression and International Support
Since the start of the week, Russia has fired roughly 2,200 drones, 106 missiles, and over 3,000 aerial bombs across Ukraine, reflecting the intensity of combat. On the night of July 4, drones struck a naval base in Kronstadt and an oil terminal in St. Petersburg. Then, on the night of July 5, a key military airfield in Crimea was attacked, signaling a possible expansion of Ukrainian operations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated: 'If Kostiantynivka is now under Russian control, then Putin would have no problem meeting me there to find a diplomatic solution to finally end the war.'
This remark emphasizes the region’s importance for future diplomatic efforts. In addition, Andriy Sybiha noted: 'Moscow has long stopped pretending to distinguish between military targets and residential areas. It bombs apartment buildings in the middle of the night because it believes it will get away with it,' pointing to the brutality of Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.
A NATO summit is scheduled for July 7-8 in Ankara to discuss aid for Ukraine, reflecting international backing and partners’ readiness to assist amid ongoing aggression. President Zelenskyy also said: 'We spoke with manufacturers about what is needed from the state—administrative decisions, funding—to maximize all types of Ukrainian capabilities and ensure formats for deep pressure on Russia and its capabilities at the front.'
Thus, the situation in Ukraine remains tense, but control over key territories like Kostiantynivka, combined with international support, could be decisive factors in future developments.
Holding Kostiantynivka is a vital element of Ukraine’s defensive strategy, as this region plays a key role in maintaining stability in eastern Ukraine. The surge in Russian attacks indicates an attempt to regain ground in this strategic direction, but Ukrainian forces continue to respond actively. International support, to be discussed at the NATO summit, may significantly influence the conflict’s trajectory by providing Ukraine with necessary resources to bolster defenses and conduct counteroffensives.
