Law Enforcement Access to Recruitment Center Databases

According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian law enforcement agencies now have direct access to the databases of Territorial Recruitment Centers (TRCs). This access enables officers to detain individuals who cannot provide proof of a valid military service deferral. Former Deputy Prosecutor General Mykola Golomsha emphasized that ignorance of the law is not a valid defense in Ukraine.

He stressed that if a person lacks documents confirming their status, they can be taken to a TRC to clarify their circumstances and be served a summons to undergo a military medical commission.

The Critical Need for Legal Compliance

Golomsha further clarified that a search for a person liable for military service, initiated by a TRC, can lose its legal force due to a statute of limitations. Violations of military registration rules in Ukraine are considered administrative offenses. If one year has passed since the violation occurred, the TRC loses the right to impose a fine or continue the search.

These developments underscore the critical importance of adhering to military registration laws and highlight the risks for individuals who fail to carry the necessary confirming documents. This policy shift occurs within the context of Ukraine's ongoing efforts to maintain a robust and accountable military mobilization system.
