Rutte named one of NATO's priorities.
Europe must do more for NATO's collective security - Mark Rutte
The Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, stated during a press conference in Warsaw that Europe must do more and faster to ensure NATO's collective security. He highlighted Poland as a vivid example of a country that is making significant efforts in this regard. The alliance's priorities are air and missile defense.
NATO plans to strengthen its defense system
Rutte also noted that at the upcoming summit in The Hague, NATO plans to discuss issues related to strengthening its defense system. It is already becoming apparent that allies are engaged in expanding the defense industry, increasing weapons production, and producing more ships and missiles. However, according to Rutte, this work needs to continue and intensify. He hopes that Poland will set an example for other countries.
Poland to increase its defense spending
The NATO Secretary General emphasized that Poland already allocates exemplary defense funding exceeding 4% of GDP and plans to increase this spending to 4.7% of GDP next year. This is a clear signal that Europe understands the necessity for greater efforts towards collective security. Increasing defense expenditures and acquiring greater military capability is the first step in this direction.
NATO enhances its air and missile defense
One of the alliance's priorities is developing air and missile defense. This became evident during the opening of the ballistic missile defense base in Redzikowo. This base significantly enhances NATO's capability to defend itself against ballistic missiles that may come from outside the Euro-Atlantic area. It is part of a broader missile defense system that includes a base in Romania, U.S. destroyers near Spain, and an early warning system in Turkey. This demonstrates the strong commitments of the U.S. and Poland in collective defense.
Rutte also emphasized that NATO is strengthening its integrated air defense system, which can protect against air threats from any direction. This includes modern air defense means and cutting-edge fighters. The alliance also conducts regular exercises to coordinate actions within this system.
