NATO Secretary General condemned defense companies for unsatisfactory work

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte sharply criticized the defense companies that are part of the Alliance. According to Reuters, the Secretary General stated that companies produce very little, set prices that are too high, and deliver very slowly, while NATO is trying to support Ukraine and increase its defense capabilities against Russia. Rutte also stated that the current target of 2% of economic output will be insufficient to deter future attacks, reports ZN.UA.

Rutte did not say whether he believes that 3% should be the new target demanded by Trump. However, he added that NATO should not only spend more on defense but also get more benefit from it.

“We are producing too little, at too high prices, and delivery is happening very slowly, so the defense industry must work more shifts and must set up more production lines,” Rutte said.

Rutte also believes that 'we cannot allow a situation where we simply pay more for the same thing and see large shareholder payouts.'
