Slovakia Won’t Fund Ukraine’s Military Aid, Fico Declares at NATO Summit in Ankara.
Major Ukraine Aid Announcement Expected at NATO Summit
According to Espreso.tv: Scheduled for July 7–8 in Ankara, the upcoming NATO summit is set to unveil a substantial assistance package for Ukraine. Alliance leaders are poised to reaffirm their collective defense commitments and announce additional funding to help Kyiv procure new weapons systems.
Meanwhile, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has made it clear that his country will not contribute financially to Ukraine’s military efforts. He stated:
“We will not support the war; Slovakia will not pay for Ukraine’s military expenses.” – Robert Fico
Fico also noted that while Bratislava refuses to participate, it cannot block other nations from doing so:
“Slovakia cannot prevent other countries that wish to chip in for the war effort.” – Robert Fico
NATO’s Stance and Ongoing Support for Ukraine
In parallel, NATO members continue to view Russia as a long-term threat, underscoring the need for close ally cooperation amid the current security landscape.
As a result, the Ankara summit will mark a critical step in shaping future support for Ukraine, even in the face of objections from individual member states like Slovakia.
This gathering highlights NATO’s enduring commitment to Ukraine amid escalating Russian aggression. At the same time, Slovakia’s position may reflect divergent views within the Alliance on funding military costs—a dynamic that could shape the overall strategy for aiding Kyiv. Maintaining unity among allies remains crucial, especially given Europe’s volatile security environment.
