Ukrainian Security Service Thwarts Russian Agent's Bomb Plot at Recruitment Center.
Attack on Donetsk Region Recruitment Center Prevented
According to TSN.ua: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented a terrorist attack in the Donetsk region, which was being planned by a woman recruited by Russian intelligence. The suspect intended to blow up a territorial recruitment center building by planting a homemade explosive device (HED) in a garbage container near the entrance. The bomb was to be remotely detonated during peak hours to maximize casualties.
The woman, a resident of Mykolaivka in the Kramatorsk district, was apprehended while attempting to retrieve the explosives. Upon her arrest, authorities seized a homemade bomb with an explosive power equivalent to nearly 2 kg of TNT. The device was also packed with metal fragments designed to increase its lethal radius, along with a mobile phone intended for remote detonation.
According to the SBU, 'the perpetrator was to place the homemade explosive device in a garbage container near the entrance to the secure facility. Russian intelligence officers then planned to remotely detonate the bomb during peak hours.'
The suspect maintained contact with her Russian handlers via Telegram. She has been formally charged with high treason under martial law and is currently in custody without the possibility of bail. If found guilty, she faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property. This incident highlights the persistent threat of sabotage operations within Ukraine's borders.
Persistent Threats from Russian Intelligence
This case is not an isolated event. In September 2024, two agents of Russian military intelligence (GRU) were convicted in Ukraine for plotting a terrorist attack in Kyiv, underscoring the ongoing threat posed by Russian special services. The security situation in Ukraine remains tense, with its security forces continuously working to prevent such crimes.
Against the backdrop of Russia's ongoing war of aggression, this incident underscores the critical work of Ukrainian law enforcement in uncovering and preventing terrorist acts. The systematic exposure of networks of Russian intelligence agents within Ukraine points to serious and persistent threats to national security. The SBU's effective actions demonstrate the country's active efforts to counter destabilization and terrorism, which is critically important under current wartime conditions.
