Arrest of Serhiy Kolobov

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) has apprehended Serhiy Ivanovych Kolobov in Kyiv, a former official who served as the so-called 'energy minister' for Crimea. Kolobov collaborated with the Russian occupation administration following the peninsula's seizure in 2014, an offense that could result in a prison sentence of up to 15 years alongside asset forfeiture. The operation took place in Ukraine's capital, and the suspect is currently held in pretrial detention without the possibility of bail.

Kolobov's Role in Occupied Crimea

After Russia's annexation of Crimea, Kolobov acquired Russian citizenship and was appointed by Moscow-installed local leader Sergey Aksyonov as the 'Minister of Fuel and Energy of the Republic of Crimea.' His duties involved assisting the Russian occupation authorities in securing control over the region's energy infrastructure. The facilities under his oversight included:

  • Simferopol and Sevastopol thermal power plants
  • Tavriyska thermal power station
  • A network of solar and wind power stations
  • Gas pipelines
  • Gas compressor stations
  • Oil depots and oil terminals in Kerch and Feodosia

Investigators have formally charged Kolobov under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which covers high treason. This arrest marks a significant step in countering Russian aggression and safeguarding Ukraine's national interests.

In the context of the ongoing war, holding individuals accountable for cooperating with occupiers has become increasingly critical. This arrest may serve as a warning to other potential collaborators that their actions will not go unpunished.
