The US aims to provide more leverage for Ukraine in negotiations - Marco Rubio

Republican Senator, who holds a high position in the Senate Intelligence Committee, Marco Rubio believes that former US President Donald Trump aims to provide more leverage for Ukraine in peace negotiations.

"I'm not on Russia's side, but unfortunately, the reality is that the path for Ukraine to end this is through negotiated settlement. I want, we want, and I want to believe that Donald Trump wants Ukraine to have more leverage in those negotiations," Rubio said in an interview on NBC's Meet the Press on Sunday.

Rubio acknowledged that the Joe Biden administration, representing the Democratic Party, also indicates that ultimately "the conflict must end with negotiations".

"We hope that when the Time comes, the Ukrainian side will have more influence than the Russian side," Rubio added.

Rubio dodged a question about whether he shares the view of U.S. Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance that Ukraine will likely be forced to cede some territory. Rubio said that the outcomes of the negotiations will be determined by the parties and expressed hope that Ukraine's sovereignty would be ensured.

Rubio called for greater clarity regarding the goals of American aid to Ukraine.

"I think we, as Americans, are actually investing billions of dollars in these efforts and it's important, while investing in this, to tell the American taxpayer exactly what these funds are going towards. After all, this is not an endless war. Right?" the politician added.
