Zelenskyy Addresses Critical Power and Heating Challenges in Kyiv.
Kyiv's Infrastructure Under Strain: President Zelenskyy Details Recovery Efforts
According to Novyny.live: In an evening address on February 8, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported a severe situation regarding electricity and heating in the capital. He stated that oil and gas companies will increase the number of teams working to restore Kyiv's infrastructure, calling this a vital step toward improving conditions for residents. These challenges stem from Russia's ongoing war, which has repeatedly targeted Ukraine's energy grid.
Currently, over 40 Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) teams are operating in Kyiv, with plans to increase their number to 60. This expansion is intended to accelerate the restoration of power and heating supplies. Additionally, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has deployed more than 200 heating points, which have been used by nearly 9,000 people. This week alone, almost 40,000 'warmth packages' have been distributed in the regions with the greatest need, providing crucial support to the population during these difficult conditions.
Infrastructure Restoration is a Critical Priority
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that the situation in Kyiv remains difficult across most metrics, particularly concerning electricity and heating. Measures are being implemented to improve the state of the infrastructure, but the work continues.
This situation in Kyiv is part of a broader issue concerning Ukraine's energy infrastructure, which has sustained significant damage due to military actions.
Restoring electricity and heating is critically important for ensuring normal living conditions for the capital's residents, especially during the winter. The efforts of the state and companies in this area demonstrate a commitment to stabilizing the situation and supporting the population amid the ongoing crisis.
