29 thousand fighters returned to the military after AWOL: how the simplified mechanism works

Over the past eight months, more than 29 thousand fighters who had deserted the service returned to the military. This refers to the period from November 29 of last year, when the simplified mechanism for returning to service those who committed 'absent without leave' for the first time came into effect.

According to DBR director Oleksiy Sukachov, the simplified mechanism for returning from 'absent without leave' allows fighters to continue their service and restore their provisions, including monetary, food, and material supplies. A faster procedure for returning to the military unit after deserting without the command's permission was developed by the DBR, the military law enforcement service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police, and the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Fighters who committed 'absent without leave' can avoid criminal liability if the corresponding decision is made by the court.

It should be noted that during the period of 'AWOL', a serviceman cannot transfer to another unit. Transfers are only possible after he returns to the military.

We also reported that fighters returning from 'absent without leave' will have their official salary reinstated. Subsequently, such military personnel will even start receiving bonuses again.

Over the past eight months, more than 29 thousand fighters who previously deserted military service during military conflicts have returned to the army. The new initiative to simplify the process of returning to service after so-called 'absent without leave' allows fighters to get a second chance and continue their service in the army. This is an important step for maintaining military discipline and ensuring the national security of the country.
