How much weaponry has been lost or stolen since the beginning of the full-scale war: figures released.

According to Opendatabot, since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, over 270,000 units of weaponry have been lost and stolen, accounting for 40% of the total amount of stolen and lost weaponry in the registry.

This year, the number of lost and stolen weaponry has increased, surpassing last year's numbers. In the incomplete year of 2024, 78,217 units of weaponry were stolen or lost, which is four times more than before the war started.

The most weaponry entered the registry in 2022 - 116,687 units. The most frequently lost were hunting rifles (27.9%), machine guns (27.8%), and carbines (10.8%). The leading model is the AK-74 machine gun (51,008 units), as well as PM pistols (7.4%) and SKS carbines (4.4%).

The biggest losses occurred in Donetsk region (19.4%), Zaporizhzhia region (11.8%), and Kyiv (10%). The majority of the weaponry in the registry is lost - 88%, while only 12% was stolen.

In August 2024, President Volodymyr Zelensky signed law No. 9538, allowing civilians to declare, own, and use found firearms and ammunition for self-defense against armed aggression from Russia. Declared trophy weaponry is permitted to be used during martial law and 90 days after its termination.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, explained how Ukraine compensates for the lack of weaponry.
