Robots Save Lives on the Pokrovsk Front: How Ground Drones Operate.
According to ТСН: On the critically important Pokrovsk-Myrnograd front, Russian troops have significantly increased their pressure by deploying their reserves. However, Ukrainian fighters do not allow the enemy to fully capture either Pokrovsk or Myrnograd and even conduct local counterattacks.
An important role in supporting our defenders at the front is played by ground robotic complexes (GRC). Ukrainian marines of the 38th brigade use them to deliver ammunition, food and water, as well as to evacuate wounded and fallen comrades.
This is how it happens – in the report by TSN correspondent Oleksandr Motorniy.
In the report, you might have seen a QR code containing donations for equipment for the 38th brigade's unmanned ground systems. Your help is very much needed by our defenders!
Even those GRCs that arrive with factory configurations require refinement, says a military officer with the callsign “Pavlin”.
“No drone that comes to us is ready out of the box to perform tasks!”
Logistics in Semi-Circumstances
The commander of the GRC platoon “Pavlin” confirms that the situation on the front is critical:
“When you look at the combat operations map, you will see in what condition Myrnograd is currently – in a semi-encirclement. And it is the logistical drones that allow us to supply the boys who are fighting there.”
Although GRCs can lay mines, shoot and conduct reconnaissance, now, according to the commander, their primary task is to maintain communication with the front lines.
Missions Under Fire: “It Looks Like a Joint Forces Operation”
As the drone departs into the twilight towards Myrnograd, it carries a critically important cargo.
The commander of the GRC “Bas” explains that this is not just a trip, but a whole military operation:
“It’s not about the passability of the drones, but the fact that it looks like a joint forces operation. Because we are not going just like that! We are going with verification, with cover, clearing those places that are most difficult to pass. We have to go through places that are hard to overcome because they are controlled by the enemy!”
The GRC operator “Kok” spends countless hours in front of the monitor, controlling the drones:
“I try to deliver supplies to the guys! But it’s also possible not to deliver. Gasoline, ammunition, water, food.”
Enemy Hunting for Logistics
Successful mission execution is hindered not just by mud, craters from bombs, and fallen trees, but also by the direct pursuit of the enemy.
When the GRC is targeted by an FPV drone, a real chase begins:
“If one gets hit, they all go! They converge, they know the coordinates – where they are.”
“Kok” has been managing drones in the direction of the front for over a year and returns them back – with the wounded, and sometimes with the bodies of fallen comrades. He has had to “squeeze everything out of the drone that it is capable of.” But the lifespan of the ground robots in this area is short-lived.
Benefit for Victory
To ensure that the drones serve longer and save the lives of marines, new models are assembled in the workshop, such as “Duga” – named after the welding arc.
57-year-old marine “Duga” does what he knows best – welding, but now with a focus on war.
“We do not think about the end of the war. We think about how to bring maximum benefit and to keep our guys at the front less exposed to FPV drones,”
he says.
