Doctors in Villages Will Receive Housing from the State: Who Can Qualify for Benefits

Several medical workers who accept priority positions in municipal medical institutions will have the opportunity to receive official housing during their employment. The funding for this housing will be provided from the state budget.

Detailed conditions for receiving housing and a list of candidates eligible for this support will be posted on the website of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Who Will Be Provided Housing by the State

Housing will be provided based on a queue, taking into account the needs of regions for personnel. Information about this will be sourced from the Unified Job Portal of medical institutions.

Currently, the portal lists 980 vacancies in rural medical facilities, of which 798 are designated for doctors. Of these, 791 vacancies have remained unfilled for three months or more. The greatest shortage of personnel is observed in certain regions:

  • Odesa;
  • Volyn;
  • Zhytomyr;
  • Kirovohrad;
  • Dnipropetrovsk.

Health Minister Viktor Liashko emphasized that this decision will help attract doctors to villages and improve the accessibility of medical services. In the future, other incentives for medical professionals are also planned.

'In my opinion, this is real support for doctors and support for residents of remote settlements so that medical assistance remains accessible,'
Liashko assures.

Requirements for Medical Workers

Receiving housing will take place under the program 'Implementation of Measures to Provide Housing for Medical Workers in Order to Fill Vacant Positions in Rural Areas'. The opportunity to receive housing will be available to medical professionals who meet certain criteria:

  • age under 50;
  • working in a municipal medical institution in a village in an open vacancy for more than 90 days;
  • working in this position for no more than 4 months;
  • not owning housing in this or neighboring localities within a radius of 30 km.

The medic independently chooses housing in the area of work or nearby (up to 30 km). Properties in regional centers, Kyiv, in combat zones, or in occupied territories are not considered.

After choosing housing, the medic submits an application to their institution. The hospital checks the documents, the housing object, and then submits the materials to the regional health department and the Ministry of Health. Upon a positive decision, the housing is purchased, registered as official, and transferred to the worker.

This project aims not only to improve working conditions for medical professionals but also to provide residents of villages with quality medical assistance close to home.

It was previously reported that a bill was submitted to the Ukrainian parliament that provides for a 50% salary increase for medical professionals providing primary health care. It is also expected to increase all related bonuses and allowances.

It was also noted that the work of medical professionals has always been extremely important, especially in the context of military conflict. Therefore, they are entitled to social guarantees ranging from additional paid leave to the possibility of receiving a pension earlier.

Medical workers working in rural medical institutions can receive official housing with support from the state budget. This program aims to improve working conditions for doctors in villages and ensure the accessibility of medical services to residents of remote settlements.
