Deadly Crash on Kyiv-Chop Highway
According to TSN.ua: A fatal collision involving two heavy goods vehicles occurred on the Kyiv-Chop highway near the village of Pasiky-Zubrytski in the Lviv region. The incident took place on March 2 at approximately 10:50 AM.
The crash between a Volvo and a MAN truck resulted in the death of the 59-year-old MAN driver, a resident of Dnipropetrovsk region, who sustained fatal injuries and died in the ambulance. The 30-year-old driver of the Volvo, from the Lviv region, was hospitalized with injuries. The Kyiv-Chop route is a major transit corridor for freight across western Ukraine.
Legal Proceedings Following the Crash
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in connection with the crash. The sanctions under this article stipulate imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years, along with additional penalties, including the deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for up to 3 years.
Accidents involving freight trucks on Ukrainian highways remain a significant concern due to their often severe consequences. Authorities continue to urge drivers to adhere to traffic regulations and exercise heightened caution on routes with heavy commercial traffic, which can be particularly hazardous.
