Holy Evening 2025: What is categorically forbidden to do on January 6.
According to ТСН: Holy Evening is a special day when the family prepares for Christmas. At this time, everyone gathers together for a quiet dinner, without noisy celebrations. Our ancestors adhered to certain prohibitions, as following simple rules on this day was considered a guarantee of peace, prosperity, and God's grace in the home.
It was a very important tradition not to sit down at the table until the first star appeared. The festive dinner could only begin after the star, symbolizing the birth of Jesus Christ, shone in the sky.
On the evening before Christmas, one should not:
quarrel and argue;
perform heavy work;
borrow money or give anything from the house so as not to 'carry away abundance';
leave an empty table - it is considered a sign of poverty;
be stingy, otherwise the year will be 'poor';
consume alcohol, as Holy Evening is a fasting and spiritual day;
refuse hospitality, as it may lead to misfortune;
throw away food, as it is considered blessed.
This family holiday, which combines Christian traditions with folk customs, remains important. The main tradition of this evening is to gather together at the table when the first star appears in the sky.
