The US State Department has approved the sale of life support systems for multi-role fighters F-16 to Ukraine. This was reported by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

The approximate total cost of the facilities is $266.4 million.

The Government of Ukraine requested to purchase:

  • Joint Mission Planning System JMPS.
  • Simple key loaders AN/PYQ-10.
  • Minor modifications and technical maintenance.
  • Engine component improvement program.
  • Spare and repair parts, consumables and accessories.
  • Provide repair and return support.
  • Software for weapons, equipment to support weapon software, classified and unclassified software and delivery support.
  • Classified and unclassified publications and documentation.
  • Personnel training and training equipment.
  • Research and surveys.
  • Engineering, technical and logistical support services of the US government and contractors.

The main contractors will be Sabena, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Pratt and Whitney.

“This proposed sale will enhance Ukraine's ability to respond to current and future threats by further enabling it to conduct self-defense and regional security missions with more reliable air defense capabilities,” said DSCA.

It is reported that the actual dollar amount will be lower depending on final requirements, budgetary authorizations, and signed purchase agreements, if and when they are concluded.

As a reminder, the second batch of F-16 aircraft from Denmark has arrived in Ukraine. This was reported by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in Telegram.

It should be noted that Ukraine needs at least 200 F-16 fighters to establish parity with the Russians in the sky.

It was reported that training for a new group of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters will begin after the completion of the language course, which is a mandatory condition for starting the main training.

The agreement includes the purchase of various equipment and services, including Joint Mission Planning System JMPS, key loaders AN/PYQ-10, engine components, spare and repair parts, software, and personnel training. The total cost of the agreement is $266.4 million. The main contractors will be Sabena, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Pratt and Whitney.

Training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters

Ukrainian pilots will receive training on F-16 fighters after completing the language course. This course is a mandatory condition for starting the main training.

According to information from The New York Times, Ukraine will be able to use no more than ten F-16 fighters on the battlefield until 2024.
