The USA established a demographic record in 2024.
According to data from the Census Bureau, the population of the USA increased by almost 1% in 2024, the largest growth since 2021, reports the Los Angeles Times.
The total number of residents in the country exceeds 340 million. The largest growth occurred in the southern states, where 1.8 million people arrived. Texas and Florida have the highest population growth rates – 563,000 and 467,000 people, respectively.
The District of Columbia showed the highest percentage growth rates – 2.2%.
According to the Associated Press, almost 2.8 million immigrants arrived in the USA. This is largely related to a change in methodology of counting, including individuals who entered the USA for humanitarian reasons.
Immigration accounts for population growth in 16 states where there would have been a decline if this factor were absent, noted demographer William Frey of the Brookings Institution.
Only in three states – Mississippi, Vermont, and West Virginia – did the population decrease, although only slightly.
The number of births in the USA in 2024 exceeded the number of deaths by 519,000.
The administration of Donald Trump intends to deport illegal migrants whose children were born in the USA. In addition, plans are in place to restore 'family arrests' of illegal migrants.
It is recalled that elected president Donald Trump plans to deport 1 million people from the country at the initial stage of his migrant deportation policy.
