Russia attacked the ports of Odesa region with drones: what was damaged on the night of January 1

According to ТСН: On the night of December 31 to January 1, Russian troops attacked the port infrastructure of the Odesa region with kamikaze drones. As a result, facilities in the ports of Odesa and Izmail were damaged.

Damage at the ports

According to the Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba, the main strike was aimed at logistics facilities:

  • In the Izmail port, port berths and specialized equipment were damaged.

  • In the Odesa port, as a result of falling debris and the blast wave, equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities were affected.

“Fortunately, there were no casualties. Relevant services and rescuers are already working on-site. The assessment of the damage is ongoing,” Kuleba reported.

Continuation of exports

Despite another attempt by the Russian Federation to block Ukrainian exports, Ukraine's maritime gateways continue to operate. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Ukraine will fulfill its obligations regarding food exports and maintain the stability of the logistics network.

Severe consequences of previous attacks

It should be reminded that on the night of December 31, Russian occupiers launched 20 strike drones at Odesa and Chornomorsk, resulting in five injuries. Enemy drones hit residential buildings and warehouses, destroying private vehicles and causing large-scale fires. The attacks also damaged energy and life support facilities, leading to power outages, heating, and water supply disruptions in a significant part of the region.

These events indicate the continuation of serious threats to security and stability in the region. Ukraine continues to work on ensuring export opportunities and restoring infrastructure, despite the difficulties it faces due to the systematic attacks by the aggressor.
