According to TSN.ua: A recent storm in the Black Sea has washed a variety of marine life and plant-based oil onto the shores of the Odesa region. Ecologist Ivan Rusev, who surveyed the coastline, reported that a three-day monitoring effort found no Black Sea seahorses (Hippocampus guttulatus), despite the species being commonly sighted in other areas previously. The Black Sea is a semi-enclosed basin, making its coastal ecosystems particularly sensitive to such weather events.

Species Found on the Shoreline

The following were discovered along the beach:

• Fish
• Crabs
• Sea sponges
• The Mediterranean mud shrimp (Upogebia pusilla)
• A large quantity of veined rapa whelks

Approximately five kilometers of the national park's sandbar were examined. Ivan Rusev noted that this particular storm did not cause significant damage to biodiversity, which is a positive sign for the region's ecosystem.

The deposition of marine animals and other materials on the Odesa coast highlights how natural processes like storms can substantially impact the marine ecosystem. The absence of the seahorse, once characteristic of this region, may indicate environmental changes or a decline in that species' population.
