According to the police, the tragedy occurred during the hearing of a property dispute. Judge Astrit Kalaja, who presided over the session, received severe injuries and was urgently transported to the hospital, but died on the way.
Two participants in the trial, a father and son, also sustained injuries. All the injured were hospitalized, and their condition is currently stable. The police detained the shooter, who attempted to flee the scene.
Reaction of the Albanian Government
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama described the incident as tragic, calling for strict penalties for crimes related to weapons. President Bajram Begaj also condemned the attack, calling it a horrific assault on justice.
This case is not isolated – a similar shooting occurred in Montgomery, Alabama, where two people were killed and another 12 were injured. Tragic events raise questions about the need for enhanced security measures and a review of gun legislation in various countries.
