Court in Cherkasy returns three unique architectural churches to the state.
According to inkorr.com: In the Cherkasy region, the court has made a decision to return three historical churches, which have the status of national architectural monuments, to state ownership. The Prosecutor's Office of Cherkasy region emphasizes that the preservation of such cultural objects is an important mission of the state to support Ukrainian identity.
“The preservation of cultural heritage sites is a priority constitutional task of the state, as cultural heritage is the most powerful component of forming Ukrainian identity, and its effective preservation, restoration, and appropriate use are among the leading tasks of the state in the cultural sphere,” the statement says.
The Smila District Prosecutor's Office discovered that some of the religious buildings lack proper registration of state ownership rights, complicating the protection of the state's rights as the owner. The prosecutor filed lawsuits in court to formalize ownership rights to these churches.
Court Ruling
The Cherkasy District Administrative Court satisfied the lawsuits and instructed the Cherkasy Regional State Administration to take the necessary measures to resolve this issue.
It is noted that earlier, the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience filed a lawsuit to ban the activities of the Moscow Church, which has ties to the Russian Orthodox Church. Additionally, the Supreme Court's Administrative Court denied the complaints regarding the transfer of the St. Nicholas Church in Kyiv to the parish community.
The return of historical churches to state ownership in Cherkasy region is an important step in preserving cultural heritage and restoring Ukrainian identity. The state's rights to these objects will help ensure their proper maintenance and preservation for future generations.
